October - CSA Box #9

Our first taste of frost arrived and it is bittersweet. It immediately knocked out our squash and pumpkin vines and stopped them in their tracks. Another freeze is on its way, which means sadly we will not have any winter squash to share this year. We really appreciate all of you that made it out to celebrate with us at our harvest bonfire. You guys bought up all of the pumpkins that were ready and we had a blast snacking, laughing, and enjoying the beautiful weather. Thankfully we still have some sweet potatoes for the final box, but the end is near friends.

  • Sweet Corn

  • Onions

  • Potatoes

  • Kale

  • Carrots

  • Radishes

  • Rutabaga

  • Lettuce and Spinach Blend

  • Tomatoes

  • Peppers

  • Eggplant

This week we had a variety of produce items that we had to spread out amongst our subscribers because there simply was not enough to go around! We divvied up some of the farm fresh goodies we made for our harvest celebration, and tried to make sure everyone got something new and exciting. Thus is the way of the CSA.

  • Broccoli - Very few of you received crowns of broccoli and (fingers crossed) the rest of you will be able to in the last box. We had a few heads that were perfect, big and beautiful.

  • Squash - Some of you were lucky enough to get a Delicata squash. There were only a handful and it was heartbreaking to see these go without us getting to have any this year. In the past, we have had these in our cellar throughout the winter months and it was tragic to see so few ripen to completion.

  • Mustard greens - These we have plenty of but we weren’t sure anyone outside of our culinary subscribers would be intersedted. These are healthy as heck for you though so let us know if you’d be interested in these in the future.

Herbs: Parsley, Cilantro, Mint, Sage, Rosemary

This week’s bouquets featured…

Sunflowers, Honeywort, Gomphrena, Dahlias, Amaranth, Celosia, Marigolds
